The Alhusien Family of Seven Live in a Room this Size (2022)

This protest piece reads:
‘The Alhusien family of seven live in a room this size’
The proportions of this piece are 4 metres by 4 metres, because that is the size of the room that the Alhusien Family live in (Wall, 2020)
‘Mr. Alhusien, his wife and five children live in one room in a house of multi-occupation in South London, and share two mattresses’ (Wall, 2020)
I sewed found bed sheets, curtains and pillow cases together to visually represent the dimensions of the room which seven people must occupy. By placing the piece in locations in Westminster, London, I hope to highlight the deep inequalities within this city and protest against this reality.
